Combined Sewer Overflow Storage

Combined sewer systems, commonly found in older communities, may often see storm water flows exceeding the hydraulic capacity of the sewer system. With recent redevelopment of urban areas, impervious areas can also increase, further increasing storm water flows to combined sewers.

To alleviate stress on these combined sewer systems, storage is often designed to attenuate peak combined sewer flows. Some Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) storage methods include underground storage (eg. tunnels) and retention tanks.

As with all designed systems, they should be easily and routinely maintained for optimal functionality. Together with our partner, PWTech®, the Tipping Bucket provides a simple solution for flushing retention tanks – maintaining CSO capacity and prevents problems arising from stagnant effluent such as septicity and unpleasant odours.
